The Municipal House is the art nouveau gem of Prague. The building stands in the original residence of Czech kings. The royal route started here, which is marked today by the Powder Tower (in Czech Prašná brána) standing right next to the Municipal House. The construction of the current house was completed in 1912. It was decorated by the best artist of that day, such as Mikoláš Aleš, František Ženíšek, Josef Václav Myslbek či Alfons Mucha. The independent Czechoslovakia was declared from its balcony on 28th October 1918 and the most important meetings between the communists and Civic Forum led by Václav Havel were held here in 1989. You can visit excellent restaurants here, admire the amazing interiors as well as enjoying a classical music concert. The largest hall is the unique Smetana Hall, which is used as a concert hall.
