Loket is a small town in the meander of Ohře river Loket dominated by a Gothic castle from the 12. century and the beautiful surrounding historic centre. During reign of king Premysl Otokar II. the significance of the castle grew in importance - this king considered this region very important. For a period of time, the future Czech king Charles IV. was imprisoned here. The name of the castle derives from the elbow shape of the river (loket means elbow in Czech). An impressive display of torture law is found in the underground of the castle.
