The Prague (also Old Town) astronomical clock is placed on the Old Town Tower in the Old Town Square. The astronomical clock starts to dance on the hour from 9am to 11pm. Gradually, the 12 apostels will appear in the little windows above the astronomical circle and at the very end the golden rooster will crow. On the sides the clock is decorated with little statues, including the death character, which measures the remaining time of life and pulls the death string. The clock was constructed as early as in the 15th century and gradually it was improved. At the bottom the calendar board by Josef Mánes is placed. The protagonist of the clock legend is the clock master Hanuš, who modified the clock at the end of 15th century. Legend has it that Hanuš constructed the clock and later on the city hall people had him blinded to make sure that he couldn't create a similar gem anywhere else. The blind Hanuš stopped the machine and no-one was able to restart the clock for more than one century.
