Charles Bridge is one of the symbols of the capital city of Prague. The bridge over the Vltava river connects the Old Town with the Small Town and is part of the Royal Route. The bridge was built by Charles IV in 1357 almost on the same spot as the prevoius Judita Bridge once stood. Later it was decorated with baroque sculptures - the most famous one is the Jan Nepomucký sculpture. Jan Nepomucký was thrown off the bridge after he was tortured - this act is shown in the bronze relief on one of the plate. Near the bridge there are three gotic towers, from which you can enjoy some beautiful views of the surrounding buildings and Prague Castle.
